Artist's StatementA graduate in graphic design from Limerick School of Art & Design, I discovered a love of a more hands-on way to express myself. This led to an organic fusion of my graphics background with painting, evoking an abstract interpretation of the subject matter through a blend of illustration and painting using mixed media with acrylics.
My aim is to make each piece become more than a 2D visualization upon a flat canvas by using relief effects and layered canvases. In each piece I try to create a scene or place where the onlooker not only sees the work but can touch and interact in such a way that the viewer can physically engage with the subject of each work of art and in a sense step into the worlds I create connecting with the emotive portrayal of each scene or characters’ circumstance. Each piece is an inspired result taken from nature and the human figure filtered through what could be called a very vivid imagination.
